The Royal Wedding: Fashion turns Royalesque

The Scene

Westminster Abbey was the location of The Royal Wedding for Prince William and Kate Middleton. Expections were high and a nation with political and social problems united as one on this joyous occasion. The red carpet rolled out for the royal members of the royal family. We are here to list the fashion trends we saw on the early hours of New York standard time. The event was timeless and the new generation of royalty said their "I do's" to officially claim their stage of holy matrimony. Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip (Queen Elizabeth's husband), and Prince Charles could not have been anymore happier then seeing their young millenial prince find his true love in Kate Middleton. As for Kate Middleton's parents, I applaud them for fitting in and presenting themselves quite prestigious on today's wedding coming from the middle-class. For fashionisitas, color and "hats" were a big thing. The main fashion curiosity, which was Kate Middleton's wedding dress was finally revealed. Here are our skimmed trends of the Royal Wedding.

Prince William (Now, Duke of Cambridge)

The prince wore a bright, red military uniform which belonged to a brave Irish soldier he met while being stationed in the UK. The combination of red coat and black slacks was classic British combinations (example; British guards). His 2 medals were attached on his left pec to distinguish his service in the Air Force of Britain as well as a lavendar sash representing the Irish soldier's bravery.

Kate Middleton

Her wedding dress, designed by Sara Burton for the Alexander McQueen Council, featured a beautiful lace top with sleeves, a modest lengthed train, and a classic adorned veil. Her minimal jewelry was perfect enough to keep her classy look and not overbear her dress.

Queen Elizabeth

Her majesty wore a two piece suit in bright yellow. She topped it off with her signature adorned hat in yellow as well.

Prince Harry

The "best man" wore a black military uniform in traditional adorned shoulders and front with golden ropes. His 6 medals for his military service were attached on the left side of his chest.

The Distinguished Guests

If Lady Gaga was the special musical guest and Alexander McQueen was still alive today they would be very proud of the trend they established in the past 3 years. The sea of colorful hats was apparent, but it did not stop these fine women from showing off some fashion. Each hat was of a different design either fully fitted, kindly tilted, or halfway frontal. It definitely stood out to distingush each women's outfit. SHOES: Our favorite section! Jimmy Choo prevailed as the Royal shoe of the day. The different bright colors were apparent, but the designs stayed classy and sexy. The majority wore styles such as dorsay and classic pointy pumps.

Always Stay Healthy; Quick Simple Tips

We have all heard it before. Eat right. Exercise. Get plenty of sleep. Sometimes our hectic work and lifestyle does not allow us to balance all three on a daily basis, but I have singled out a few habits which should be put into your daily lifestyle to maintain a wonderful, healthy you.

Drink (8) Glasses of Water Everyday- Water boosts your metabolism and keeps your organs running smoothly. Use your thirst as a guide for when and how much to drink says, Holly Phillips, MD, a women's health specialist. You should not worry if you have gone a whole day without drinking much. You most likely quenched your thirst through foods with high water content. Some high water foods are soups, pasta, rice, fruits, and vegetables.

Work Out for (1) Hour Daily- A study out this year suggests women must do 60 minutes of exercise daily to keep from balooning as they age. There is no need to be boggled by this eact time. Study shows 30 minutes will keep your average body frame fit. As long as you get a 30 minute cardio workoutfour times a week, you should stay in shape.

Wearing Heels will Deform Feet by 40- As much as we emphasize comfort here at Sergi Shoes, we still like to be able to wear and see our customers look great with their heels on. We recommend switching up from heels to flats or sandals after the work day. The fit of the shoe is what will determine how heels effect your feet. Boston podiatrist, Jordana Szpiro comments "Just a half -size in the length and width can lead to blisters, bunions, calluses, foot and leg pain." Not wearing the right size makes your feet form to the too-small space and creating skin rub or frction. If you wear tight shoes, all of your weight is shifted to the balls and toes of your feet. Your weight should be evenly distributed between the balls and heels. Mke sure you can wiggle your toes comfortably when you are standing up and feet have slid forward a bit. Make sure your sides don't feel pinched.

You Need Tons of Fruits and Veggies- It is easier to consume 4-1/2 cups of fruits and vegetables. a small apple, 8 strawberries, or 12 baby carrots count as 1 cup. An entree salad or bowl of veggie based soup can be counted as 2 cups or more.

10 Extra Pounds can Cause Health Problems- Carrying up to 10 extra pounds won't substantially increase your chances of diabetes, heart problems, cnacer, or any other condition," says Steven Nissen, MD, chairman of the department of cardiovascular medicine at the Cleveland Clinic. As this number rises past 10 pounds , there will be the chance of health complications. The extra weight we are talk about is the wait centered near your belly. These are fat cells that surround vital organs and lead to health problems. The fat cells above your hips can lead to heart issues. Want to check your ideal weight for your height, use this equation to see what your weight should be. (5 x height in inches above 5 feet + 100 =____)

Not Rested Without (8) Hours of Sleep per Night- "Plenty of people feel reasonably rested after six or seven hours, while others may need eight one day after being more active than usual yet require less the next," says Thomas Balkin, PhD, chairman of the National Sleep Foundation's board of directors. There is no universal number that applies to everyone everyday. Listen to your body and figure out the sleep it needs. making yourself try to fall asleep my lead to stress, anxiety, and ultimately, a poor nights rest.

Women May Pass Men in Job Force

The recession has effected primarily men in the longest recession in the US. It is not gender, but the industries that have taken a hit in the recession in terms of layoffs and downsizing branches. Here are the reasons for the surge in women in the workforce.

Manufacturing and Construction went under

The majority of men, that is 82 percent of the job losses came from industries in manufacturing and construction. Women are primarily in industries that are not as affected such as education and healthcare.

Concentration of job losses among men

"Women represented a high proportion of the labor force in the beginning of this recession, women are now bearing the burden or the opportunity of being breadwinners," says Heather Boushey, a senior economist at the Center for American Progress.

Deep, Prolonged Recessions

When you have a recession which brings no opportunties for the job losses it took, it will give women the opportunity to become bread winners and perhaps leave the role of caregivers. The possibility of long standing gender roles. In recessions, the percentage of families supported by women tends to rise slightly.

For a limited time

Women may find themselves safer in their jobs, but end up finding it hard to support a family. Women work fewer overall hours than men. Jobs women take are primarily part time jobs with no health insurance or unemployment insurance. According to government data, women earn 80 cents for each dollar a males income. "The jobs women have and are supporting their families with are not necessarily as good as the union jobs men used to have with great healthcare plans," says Christine Owens.

Women who partake a job with a husband who has lost his job will end up accepting both roles of work and household. Women may appear to be sole breadwinners, but will remain responsible for domestic responsibilites. According to data by the American Time Use Survey, employed women devote more time to child care and housework than employed men do. When women are looking for a job, the time women spend taking care of children nearly doubles. Unemployed men's child care duties stay the same when their spouses are at work and spend more time sleeping, watching TV, and looking for a job along with other domestic activities. Many of the unemployed men interviewed say they have tried to share the domestic responsibilities, but have not had the time to do more because of the time used to job hunt. History has taught us that the way couples divide household jobs are fairly resistant to change, says Heidi Hartmann president and chief economist at the Institute for Womens Policy Research. "Over a long, 20 year period, married men have stepped up to the plate a little bit, but not as much as married women have dropped off in the time they spend on household chores," Ms. Hartmann says. As declining incomes force families to cut back "women will most likely pick up the slack."

Time to Impress Your Boss

Handling Mistakes

The best way to make up for your mistakes is to fix the problem and quickly move on. Do not CRY! There is an old movie line by actor Tom Hanks where he coached an all women baseball team he said, "THERE'S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!". He was right because once you cry you show your weakness and you open yourself up to be manhandled by your co-workers. Famous fashion publicist, Kelly Cutrone of the Peoples Revolution has firmly banned crying from her office in NYC. In her latest book, "If You Cry, Go Outside", she candidly describes the notion of crying by keeping it outside the office and let it out to all your friends, but do not disturb or distract herself and the rest of the office who are here to make money and be serious.

I acknowledge her tough, stern actions because in order to be respected in the business world you have to show toughness and your team needs to show that toughness as well. In order for women to acquire equal rights in the workplace they need to start acting like equals. That is absolutely no crying. Ms. Kelly Cutrone adds to this point by saying, "once you enter the workplace, you are surrounded by grown-ups, not friends. Your boss is not your friend nor your therapist. Your boss is a person who is paying you to do a job."

Show Respect No Matter What

Your boss is a human being and he or she deserves respect. You can extend your respect by showing compassion for their stressful work days through providing a treat. Don't be afraid to ask your boss if they would like a cup of coffee or something else to drink if you are on your way to get a drink or lunch. She or he will remember you for your good actions. Unfortunately, lower level employees do not see it this way. They think their boss has made it and has it easy compared to everyone else. If your boss is still working, it is because they have not made it.

Gossip Girl Equals Ticket to Getting Fired

Avoid posting things online about yourself or other people particularly social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook. You have to assume that if you can read someone elses postings they can read yours. Simply, don't do anything outrageously stupid. Young employees today fail to understand that they are not in high school or college anymore and try to set out to re-create their family and college-friend relationships.

The Lesson

The better you are at work and in in your relationships the more successful you will be and feel. Unfortunately with every succes comes enemies adn/or envy amongst certain co-workers. When certain people see you happy and successful, they feel jealous and create disturbed feelings towards you. Beware of these people and those that want to set you up for failure. It is a harsh pill to swallow, but it is important for you to live your life than to be worried on what other people say or think about you.

"Would you be my Valentine": Tips on how to make it an Unforgettable Day!

"Be my, be my little baby", those uttered words are memorable in the Motown music days but we all want a special person to "be our valentine" on Valentines Day. We want someone to remind us how cute love can be amazing all over again through gifts, guilty pleasures, and that song playing in the background from the Disney cartoon "The Lady and the Tramp". So ladies! Cross your fingers and hope that your hubbies have done their homework and are ready to surprise you on this special day. Here are a few tips on how to make the day come naturally and remind your hubbies to NOT go overboard! Forgive us ladies, but we get too excited or nervous, sometimes both!

Our First- It is good to remind yourself of your first time. Your first kiss, first meal, or even first date. Walk down memory lane and dine at the first place of your first date. If the place is far away or nonexistent, dine in get on comfy clothes and make it a movie night.

Have a portrait drawn- An artist can hand paint a duplicate of a photo of your special one. This is a great gift because you made that extra effort to personalize an image of your special one.

Create a gift basket- This is very special because you took the time to think of what favorite things your special person likes and organized them neatly in a basket. It could be anything DVD movies, candy, wine, ornaments, etc.

Time for a Scavnger Hunt- What is a special day without the surprises? Make each other work for your Valentines Day gift. Gather your special ones favorite items from fragrances, novelties, candies, DVD's and hide them at the place you plan to celebrate Valentines Day or simply at home.

--drumrole-- "A day at the Spa" - If your man truly appreciates you and has done his homework, he will present to you admission to a day at the spa. You need it!

Good luck ladies!
Happy Valentines Day to all!

Do Professional Women Lose Confidence in their Abilities during Motherhood?

New moms may find discrepancies by the roles they transition from college graduate, to career woman, to fianceee, to wife, and to motherhood. These identity shifts may cause stress and overwhelming snesation on how not too loose "control" of the things they used to before motherhood and as a career woman. There are mixed perceptions that a new mom's worth is less when she has a baby. These women should not for any reason. This may only be true in numbers of she completely left her company she worked with before her pregnancy. A percentage of new moms have been relying on freelancer/consultant jobs because of the flexibility these jobs provide. These moms have new responsibilites now and I do not believe new moms perceive themselves worth less and loosing their drive to demand more back in the business world. The tables turn when you have children. You need more time for them and everything else on your schedule. These new moms need to tackle this avalanche of new responsibilities as a mom and they seek help by finding that "balance". What are your suggestions?

Timing Is Everything

When time is your enemy, the last feeling you want is that you did not accomplish everything or something. To balance out your work schedule and your time for you, here are some suggestions on when to find time for everything. We mean timing it right.

For the Job Hunter, you are better off scheduling interviews between 10am and 11am. You are sharper and better able to handle stressful situations because your body temperature has surged by this time. Your looks are much better as well because the overnight water retention that puffs out your face has disappeared. In terms of the person who is interviewing you, they are over the morning crankiness and are not craving food because they will be focused on finding the right candidate for the job.

For the much needed massage, it would be best to sooth your muscles between noon and 3pm. Skin is more relaxed and touchy receptive during this time because your body is producing less histamine- a natural chemical that can make skin itchy and irritated. The soothing relaxation of your massage is at its most enjoyable moment and you are unlikely to end up red and splotchy.

For the Happy Hour gal in you, here is the opportunity to meet a new guy afterwork between 5pm and 7pm. You know why? Optimism and energy are skyrocketing during this time. Get control of the situation and have fewer predate jitters. Just throw those out the window!

For the thinker in you, the best time to brainstorm new ideas are between 8pm and 9pm. Your creative juices are flowing and you have less distractions so this is the perfect time to spring up new ideas or reorganizing the new wardrobe for the following workdays.

Walk the Walk Has Never Looked So Sexy and Successful

Is there a certain walk that turns heads at work and when you are out? Researchers from Queen’s University in Canada recently had men rate different female gaits and discovered one particular straut which attracts men. How do you explain this captivating moment? Dr. Helen Fisher, Phd, author of Why Him? Why Her?, explains “Women have developed ways to get a man’s attention as we have evolved, the walk is one of them.”

There are certain traits to be considered as The Walk, which resembles the single female woman of Victoria secret model strut. The strut of course! Your head is up, shoulders are back, and you lead with your boobs. Your arms swing loosely back and forth while your hips swivel from side to side. You will need to practice to make it your go to gait. Best way to remember “Shoulders, hips, heels…” Put most of your weight on your heels. You’ll thank us once you master it.

The results are a walk which has your body in symmetrical alignment and rhythmic movements which sends a message to onlookers that you are in touch and in control of your body. This also assumes you are in control of your life.

Try The Walk at work. How does it work, you ask? Besides making you look hotter, you feel sexier, and more confident. It transfers into your mind. The more often you use The Walk the more convinced your mind gets that you do feel sexy and confident. Show off Your Walk and use it defiantly.

Its Time for a Raise

There comes a point in our early careers, say after three or four years, that we take a step back and try to figure out where our career is taking us and where do you want to be. Most importantly, the price tag you deserve for your hard work should be well rewarded. Right? How do you ask for a raise? Is it such a sensitive issue to talk about to your boss? In reality, during a recession, it is uncommon to ask for a raise and will lead you to be stuck in a financial rut. No need to despair. You need to plan and start making yourself valuable. Time is Money. Take on some of our suggestions on how to go about it.

Set the time and Mood

Your hear that your company has increased its sales department and increasing revenue with repeat business. Were you part of this success? If so, prepare to ask the question to your boss within a month after the big company success. Lois Frankel, PhD, author of See Jane Lead suggest you to go for it. Better profits means better moods for your boss. You should find out when your boss submits his/her annual budget for next year and broach the topic a few months beforehand. This is for the reason to give your boss enough time to figure out where the extra money is going to come from to pay you.

Another opportunity would be when you get a job offer or are approached by a recruiter from another company. You then, approach your boss with this option for him or her to see that you are demanding. We suggest you say: “I want you to know that an appealing opportunity has come up, but I love working here and would like to stay. Is there any way you can make my salary a little more competitive?”

Outline Your Strengths

You have to let your boss know that you are making a job much easier with you carrying on this extra bonus. The tactic is to come off as an asset that will be a nightmare without you around. List the clients who have raved about your work. Point out your latest achievements and how much responsibility you took on.

Maintain a Friendly Environment

A recent Harvard study discovered that male and female bosses were less inclined to work with a woman who demanded a pay boost because it came off overly aggressive, says study author Hannah Riley Bowles, an assistant professor at Harvard Kennedy School. Bowles found out that women who took the softer approach and explained why they wanted the raise did not have the same problem. We suggest finishing your opened conversation of job strengths with “Given my contributions, I’d like to discuss my prospects for getting a raise. What do you think?” Since this asks your boss’ opinion, it shows you have respect for your boss.

Put yourself a Price Tag

After giving your convincing point, the response from your boss will inevitably be this: “How much were you hoping for?” Avoid saying “Whatever you can manage” or else you will always be low-balled. Instead, come prepared with a double figure. Some useful sites to research your double figure would be looking at Salary.com and Glassdoor.com to get an idea of what other people on your level are making. The standard raise is 5 to 10 percent. If you seek more, why not? You enter a situation where your convincing approach must prove your responsibilities have grown significantly since you were hired. Once you get what you deserve, remember to send a thank-you note to the best boss

Where is the luxury in the Recession?

In a recent research on the luxury market. We have come up with a few questions you might be wondering with the luxury market in the recession or "hard times". Are luxury people loosing money or do they ride high in any economy? Read on and see if you get the jitters of longing to be wealthy some day. Maybe for a week, a month, or a liftime.

Sergi Shoes, Why is the luxury market important?

"The luxury market represents the highest quality. It defines great design, craftsmanship, quality, and a lasting value to certain products. Luxury is not just about being trendy, but having the aesthetic components to become a pedigree which will last hundreds of years. The idea behind a modestly priced item is that you buy for the long-term which in return saves you from buying excess products. For example, if you talk about products made out of plastics, these products will be timeless because a material like plastic will last you a tong time. As far as luxury in fashionable shoes, black pumps are considered classic and have survived the test of time because it has a certain design and aesthetic which can be altered, but remains a timeless product. For instance, leather products and accessories have a high value to them. Leather defines its products by the strength and resilient of the material. You can wear leather products at work while still be able to feel and look sharp later that day at a dinner or special event."

Sergi Shoes, Where do you see the luxury market going? Will it continue to thrive?

"It will continue to grow. Typically, the luxury market does better in boom years and the regular economy follows. In a recession, which includes the past recession we have just had, the luxury market underforms. The catalyst to the growth in the luxury market will be the human psychological value. This is comprised of the need to have a symbolic value and functional value towards each humans own characteristics. Trends in the luxury market has and will continue to be highly dependent on this concept. You should also know the luxury market has been and will be based on two things: women and browns. When a brand has products devoted to these two things they have acheived the demanding market for continued success. The way you treat your customers has a direct reflect on how good your sales are performing year in and year out. The principle of great service will be part of a brands future success. The way brands treat their customers will decide whether the same people who walked in the first time will remember you the second time around. People want great service. Simple as that. When great service is acheived you create a certain relationship between the brand and the customers. This relationship is hoped to be transfered into a long-term relationship which creates sales connectivity and most importantly, an increase in repeat business. For a brand to establish itself as a brand they need to understand that people matter tremendously and you need to treat your customers well to grow as a brand."

Sergi Shoes, Can luxury brands from all sectors keep competing? Will some disappear or others take control?

"Customers of big brands will continue to buy through a recession. The popular and well known brands will continue to exist during a recession. What we have seen most often in a recession is that new brands appear and innovation shows up more often than other economic times. Unfortunately, these new brands have difficulty securing funding capital and are forced to leave the market completely which also hurts the growth of innovation in these new brands. Innovation is what we want to see nowadays come out of a recession. Luxury is not dead and it will not die. There will always be a market for luxury brands. Small brands are vulnerable in a recession because of the lack of capital available and customers are hard to come by as they tighten up their belts and spend only on what they need not what they can splurge on."

Sergi Shoes, What do brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Harley Davidson, and Mercedes Benz need to do to continue their success?

"When you talk about Premium Brands or High Premium Brands customers expect a certain combination of classic and contemporary looks versatility in new designs. Take for instance Tommy Hilfiger, this brand has been able to offer their customers timeless products for diverse functions whether it be something to wear for the office, as a leisure, or for activity use. This goes back to the point I made about plastics, which is a product that will last long. These brands stick to manufacturing products that are timeless and are limited in manufacturing."

Sergi Shoes, Should luxury brands always give customers what they want? Is the customer always right?

"Brands should be conscience on what they are selling. You have to take into account the people who you want to buy your products. The luxury market needs to provide its customers with more irreverant designers. The Jackson Pollocks who push the envelope in design and create evocative products. We need more room in the market for these types of designers. If you look at the arts and sciences, you can see that more brands are more mainstream. In luxury brands the concept is different. This indifference supports the importance of feedback from supplies optimize visual models."

Sergi Shoes, Do you think the luxury market will save the economy?

"Absolutely not. The luxury market only accounts for 5 percent of the economy as a whole. What will save the economy are boosting healthcare, manufacturing, and most importantly, jobs. There needs to be the availability of jobs for collective citizens. In order for jobs to be productive there needs to be a mix of job security, enough money people can make to earn a living, enough money people can save for the future and enough money to spend so they can splurge on. There also needs to be enough jobs for the young professional market in order for them to spend on at a higher rate. As the young professional market spends, they will define the style and productivity of current and future brands."

Stuffing your bra may save the planet! Chopstick bra to the Rescue

Call it innovation or a fast take out meal. A Japanese lingerie maker has created a bra with renewable chopsticks that can be tucked in your bra. I'll have a bra meal and chopsticks-to-go please! The bra called "My Chopsticks Bra" was promoted in Tokyo by Triumph International Japan in order to tap into the eco-friendly market. The bra comes with a complete dining set. The left cup comes with a miso soup bowl, the right cup with a rice bowl, and reusable chopstick that are tucked on the sides of the cups (right under your armpit) to give you that extra "push up". The Japanese company is no stranger to these far out bras. They have also designed bras that can be turned into a clothing shopping bag or microwaveable in order to preheat them for that comfortable warm wear. The bra may not be jumping off racks as they are not for sale, but they do provide a sense of whacky designs to leave a tasty feeling in you. The designers have tried to keep it fashionable with the bright colors and floral design on the straps with thin string bows. In a dating sense, I don't think guys will find it sexy to know your bra is a platter to feast on. To all the ladies, I would find it to be difficult to prevent yourself from spilling the soup. Wearing a bra should not be an uncomfortable feeling on how you smell like food left in your bra. I recommend to stick to Victoria Secret bras in the "push up" section and not worry about cleaning that food grease from your bra.

Golden Globes 2011: Running late or running a statement?

The Golden Globes were the first major Hollywood Awards show of the new year. There were many celebrities showing off their new baby pumps for moms to be, others looked stunning while others were simply, plainly "outrages" with their wardrobe.

Example A:

HELENA Bonham Carter, the actress who plays alongside actor Colin Firth in "The Kings Speech" decided to standout by wearing two different colored shoes. The style was kept classy, mary jane low heeled pump with satin uppers. A red shoe and green shoe? What is this a Christmas (holiday) party? Her footwear plans fell through the cracks. Good choice to feel comfy through the award show and maybe the afterparty. In a celebrity seen, I am sure you can hire a stylist to give you pointers, or better yet go to one of our SHoe fans at Shoe smitten, Cat in Heels, Sexy Shoes, or even here at Sergi Shoes and get an idea on how to pick shoes for a big time celebrity award show. Ladies, won't you agree?

Now we can’t say we’re surprised the actress – who is married to film director Tim Burton – turned up in a controversial outfit at such a style-oriented event.

To add insult to injury, her hair stylist must of been someone who knows NOTHING about hair styling. Since when is this kind of FRIZZED Hair a fashion trend? Also, California has no humidity. For some of us here in NYC, we have to deal with it in Spring and pre-summer times. No excuse for that kind of hair. We wouldn’t be bowing or giving thumbs up for you Helena.
